What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a form of health care that is drug-free, hands-on, non-invasive treatment option. The goal of chiropractic care is to restore spinal movement, improving function while decreasing pain and inflammation. Chiropractic care is holistic, meaning that the entire body and a person's lifestyle are examined and treated.
What is an adjustment?
The chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, is the most common therapeutic procedure performed by Doctors of Chiropractic. An adjustment is a precise procedure in which the chiropractor exerts specific pressure at specific places on the spine or other joints. Adjustments correct joint alignment/mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.
Adjustment of a joint may result in release of a gas bubble between the joints that make a popping sound - it's exactly the same as when you "crack" your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change or pressure within the joint that results in gas bubbles being released.
What do Chiropractors treat?
Chiropractors treat mostly neuromusculoskeletal complaints including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.
If you are suffering from a condition that is not responding to traditional medicine, you may benefit from a short-term trial of chiropractic care.
An Athlete's Best Friend
It doesn't matter if you are professional or a weekend athlete, your best friend is your chiropractor. Chiropractors are some of the most actively involved health care professionals in sports-related conditioning, injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. The most typical injury involves the back, neck, or shoulder. Chiropractic adjustments are vital in restoring the biomechanics of the neck, back, shoulders, and hips. Many professional sports teams employ chiropractors to prevent and treat sport-related injuries. Former NFL wide-receiver Jerry Rice shares his positive experiences with chiropractic care. Jerry Rice says, ""If I had everything in alignment, I knew I could play my best football." His training routine included twice-weekly chiropractic adjustments, which helped his body recover from all the hard hits and countless tackles. Because he firmly believed in the benefits of chiropractic, his teammates began to favor this natural care over the medications that trainers traditionally give. "I wanted to set the standard within football," said Rice. "I knew if chiropractic helped me put up outstanding numbers, it could help my teammates do the same."
A sports injury can take up to eight weeks to heal depending on the particular injury. Once the injury has healed, it is a good idea to continue with regular chiropractic adjustments to keep the body balanced properly and functionling at its peak. Do not wait until you are injuried. Preventative chiropractic treatments are the place to start your athletic endeavors.
Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy
It’s no joke; pregnancy can bring with it many months of back pain both before and after the birth. Women who have turned to chiropractic care have found that regular adjustments throughout and following pregnancy provide relief from the low back pain brought on by bearing children. Chiropractic manipulation is safe for a pregnant woman as well as the unborn child and can be especially attractive to those trying to avoid medications in treating their back pain. Adjustments help to insure your pelvic bones are in proper alignment, which may result in an easier delivery with less chance of injury to you and your child.
Dr. Dahl has a table which can be modified to accommodate the changes in your body and she will modify her adjusting techniques as necessary during the course of your pregnancy.
From development to delivery and beyond, chiropractic care for expectant mothers serves to reduce the pains of pregnancy, enhances fetal development, and encourages proper recovery after birth all without medications.

Chiropractic Care & Kids
Children can also benefit from chiropractic care. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness, or discomfort. Chiropractors can treat these problems and help prepare your child for a healthy adulthood. Dr. Dahl modifies her chiropractic techniques to be appropriate for your child's size and needs. She uses a very gentle pressure to adjust your child. Adjustments are key to maintaining good health and ensuring proper spinal development in your child.
